"Stomach Flu" Survival

So I've been MIA for about a week or so. Just about the same amount of time it took for the stomach flu to wreak havoc on our household….boo.
It's funny, I always thought the flu was the icky bug that caused upset stomach, vomitting, and diharrea. But it's actually the rotavirus and the echovirus that causes us such suffering.
Here's a "stomach flu" survival guide to get you through those nasty few days that make you want to crawl under a rock and die.

1) Ginger Ale - Keep hydrated

My saving grace through the suffering. The only thing I can stand to look at. I don't know why, it's really weird but ginger ale is so refreshing when feeling so crumby. Any clear fluid will do the trick really, but for me it's ginger ale. And obviously a little at a time so it does all come back out.

2) Clean towels

With four kids in the house, we went through these fast!

3) Keep Clean

The stomach flu is extremely contagious as most of us already know. It can be difficult to keep it spreading throughout your house especially with little ones. Keep a big bottle of sanitizer on hand to keep your hands washed or sanitized after touching people or belongings that have been exposed. A fun way to get kids to keep sanitizing is with the cute little sanitizers from bath and body works and their little holders. My kiddies love them. Don't forget to wash with soap and water too.

4) Ginger tea or peppermint tea

Either of these two teas are soothing for nausea. So comforting.

5) BRAT diet

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

Need I say more?

6) My personal favourite…….

JELL-O

This was the first food item I wanted…actually craved. It feels so good to finally want to eat again.

I know nobody wants to think of getting sick, but when you do, hopefully you remember these common tips to get you through.
